I have a kidney transplant class scheduled for Sept. 18th. It takes about 3 hours. It is the first step and is mandatory to attend if you are getting a transplant with MUSC. They recommend a family member to go with you. The good news is that I only have to travel about 30-40 minutes instead of 4 hours to this class. Hooray!
I took another dose of Procrit. Since I am feeling better...I am having a hard time taking these. I really didn't want to yesterday. I have to tell myself that the reason I feel good is because of these injections.
I have met up with a gentleman named Lightning who had a liver transplant by MUSC. He has been great about answering questions...he has even given me the email of a friend of his who just went through a kidney/pancreas transplant at MUSC a month ago. Go visit his story if you get the chance. It is great!

Vicky, I received your post and thought this is exactly why I started blogging. To possible help someone else going through the process of waiting on a transplant. I'm not familar with Sjogrens but was amazed at how many different conditions can wipe out kidney functions. I'm still going well and havent posted because of being busy and doing the things I've not had the energy for in a long time. When you go to your class, ask them at least 2 questions: How many transplants are done each year here? And, how many are currently on the waiting list. They told us what the average wait time was for our blood types. Take each day as it comes. Don't look at the road ahead of you because it will drive you mad at times. I remember going to bed at night thinking well I've made it through another day. The hardest thing I guess for me was telling God that I wanted Him to pick the best kidney for me and MEANING it. That was tested twice and my resolve never waivered. I saw where you mentioned Lupus. One of the transplant team members has Lupus and was able to donate a kidney to her brother. She had been turned down as a donor in Florida where her brother lived and he eventually did get a kidney but he rejected after about 4 years. She talked him into coming up to Birmingham to be evaluated and she was evaluated also and came through with flying colors. Her brother is doing well and has had his new kidney for about 20 years now. Contact me anytime. I've already started praying for you and will continue to do so.
